Staff Minister of Music, Worship & Arts
Areas of Ministry: Rev. Dr. Janette Chandler Kotey serves as the Staff Minister of Music, Worship and Arts. As a “singing servant”, her primary responsibility is oversight of all music, liturgical and other expressive forms as used in worship. She is the primary Minister of Music, where she provides leadership to a growing program of choirs, directors, musicians, liturgical dance and praise teams. She also serve as the Music Teacher at the First Missionary Baptist Church Child Development Center and Academy. She brings to FMBC her gifts of music, preaching and congregational care. She’s the former Pastor of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Tulsa, Ok and Franklin United Methodist Church, Okmulgee, OK and Associate Pastor and Minister of Music and the Arts, St. Paul United Methodist Church, Dallas, TX. Dr. Kotey has traveled throughout the United States as well as South Africa, West Africa, Brazil, London and Jamaica carrying the good news of the gospel in word and song. She is the proud mother of three daughters, Lillian, Rita and Jennifer, one son-in-love Edward and two amazing grandsons, Josiah and David.

Why I love working in ministry: I am blessed to be a part of the rich worship and musical tradition at FMBC. It is simply amazing to serve in a congregation where we worship with gladness, joy and in spirit and truth.
