La Keisha and Pastor Don Darius Butler met while the two were matriculating at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN. After a beautiful courtship, in 2008, she became Reverend Butler’s young bride. Following an assignment with a private law firm in Kentucky, La Keisha moved with her husband to Milwaukee, WI, where God’s favor combined with her considerable skill and academic preparation opened doors for a progressive career in state and municipal government.

A multi-tasker by nature, La Keisha has made considerable professional strides while maintaining the artful balancing act of marriage, motherhood, church and community service. At the couple’s former church, Tabernacle Community Baptist Church (TCBC), she stood alongside Pastor Butler as a prayer warrior and spiritual partner, teaching a youth Bible class for teenage girls (grades 6-12), coordinating various church events, to include an annual women’s empowerment gathering, church anniversary celebrations and the TCBC 95th Anniversary Gala. She also served as the church’s legal counsel.

La Keisha is a graduate of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems, with high honors.  She holds two law degrees, a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Vanderbilt University Law School and a Master of Law in Taxation from New York University School of Law.

Her professional career has included service as legal counsel for the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, representing the state in income, sales, and property tax cases, and as, Assistant City Attorney for the City of Milwaukee. La Keisha went on to become the City’s chief lobbyist as the Director of Intergovernmental Relations, and, within a year, she received a mayoral nomination to the post, Executive Director of the City of Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission. A member of the Kentucky State Bar and the Wisconsin State Bar, she has served on various professional boards and committees.

In her spare time, La Keisha loves to unwind by reading a good book or watching reality television. She also enjoys serving the community with the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.  La Keisha and Pastor Butler are the adoring parents of one daughter, Dahlia Marie and a son Don Darius, Jr.
